- enti (Lower, Kvarner)
- ener, enere (Southwestern Central), (Kvarner)
Etymology
Inherited from Old Carnian enti, from Proto-Slavic *ęti. The expected prothetic /j/ has never been attested, likely in analogy with the perfective zent and other prefixed forms lacking it. Cognate with Slovene jeti (“to begin”), Polish jąć (“to seize”).
Pronunciation
- (Standard) IPA: [ɛ̂nt]
- (1sg present indicative) IPA: [ɛ̂ːnɛm]
- (Carinthian) IPA: [ɛ̃̂t]
Verb
ent impf (perfective zent)
- (transitive) to take
- Kei baṡ eu diens? ― What will you be taking today?
- Eni mojà rancà. ― Take my hand.
Usage notes
The present stem en- replaced the earlier em- in analogy with other verbs ending in *-ęti.
