There are five main noun cases in Marêngil; Nominative, Accusative, Dative, Genitive and Possessed. A six case was later added, the Locative, which functions differently from the previous five. The Locative case is special in that the case markings appear as a prefix instead of a suffix. This comes from when prepositions began to be added to the back of a noun with a hyphen which later merged to become the many locative cases. Because of the excruciating detail and unique nature of the Locative case, it is rewarded its own table.
There are five main noun cases in Marêngil; Nominative, Accusative, Dative, Genitive and Possessed. A sixth case, The Locative, is also present, but is considered separately to the others since its function is different. The Locative case, instead of determining a quality attributed to a noun, determines its position in space and time, and uses prefixes which act as the only existing prepositions in the language today. At one point there were separate prepositions, but since then they have lost their individuality. All cases are based around these prepositions.
