Etymology

From Middle Eburonian cieosen, ciesen, ciesn, from Old Eburonian ciosan, from Proto-West Germanic *keusan, from Proto-Germanic *keusaną. Cognate with Dutch kiezen (“to choose”), English choose, Danish kyse (“to frighten”), Swedish tjusa (“to charm, allure, enchant”), archaic German kiesen.
